The Discover Gwynedd easy to use interactive map helps you plan your visit to Gwynedd letting you make the most of whatever time you have available.
The whole of Gwynedd can be viewed in detail. Where to eat, special scenic places, what’s going on, even snippets of local folklore, can all be found using the map. Everything from local artists to major visitor attractions to specialty coffee shops, can be located easily with the click of a mouse.
Simply choose the category you’re interested in from the navigation box list (situated on the left side of the map). For example, if you’d like to plan a day seeing a selection of artwork by local artists, tick the ‘arts and crafts’ selector. Icons will appear on the map showing the location of the many local crafts people in Gwynedd. Further detailed information on each individual craftsperson can be viewed by clicking on their respective icon.
This facility lets you see what activities, workshops and special events are happening during your visit. To use, firstly tick the ‘events’ selector. Enter the start and finishing dates of the period you’re interested in. A click on the ‘search’ button will then bring up icons on the map showing all the events happening in Gwynedd within you’re specified time period. Further detailed information on each event can be viewed by clicking on any of these icons.

Cwm Idwal, a National Nature Reserve in the Snowdonia mountains is a fantastic introduction to glacial geology. A well-marked route takes you into the heather-clad upland world of the raven, with arctic alpine plants, fast-flowing streams frequented by dipper, and the sheer scale and grandeur of its icescraped amphitheatre.
Gwaith Powdwr nature reserve (81 acres), on the Dwyryd estuary is a gateway to the hanging oak woodlands of the Vale of Ffestiniog. Gnarled and ancient trees clad with mosses, liverworts and lichens support pied flycatchers and redstarts, while the rivers and streams are home to otters and sewin (sea trout).
To get a real feel for the Gwynedd sea and coast, one of the best places to visit is Uwchmynydd. Standing on the headland at the very tip of the Llŷn, you are in no doubt about the power of the sea, the resilience of the cliffs, and the value of the coastal heaths for key birds such as the chough and stonechat.
